Where did the name “Alfie’s Friend Rolfe” come from? We get asked this question all the time, so listen up.
Once upon a time, there was a little fashion agency called Alfie’s Agency, run by two wonderful Brits who were importing a bit of sharp english style to our shores. The two owners each had a shop…Alfie’s Shop on Gould Street in Bondi Beach was the first store, and Alfie’s Friend Rolfe opened up less than a year later on Darlinghurst Road.
Any self-respecting stylish englishman will name Michael Caine as one of his style icons, hence the name “Alfie” from his infamous 60′s film about a charming ladies’ man. It seemed a fitting name for the son of one of the owners, who named his boy Alfie, and subsequently, the Agency and stores followed suit.
And what about the rest…The origins of Alfie’s Friend Rolfe?
Well, when the stores were named, Alfie was only a toddler and mispronounced his dad’s business partner’s name…in toddler talk Rob became “Rolfe” .
So there you have it people…”Alfie” was a little boy, and “Rolfe” was a geezer called Rob.
The End.
